Western trillium (Trillium ovatum)
Trilliums bloom brilliant white in spring and are among the most beautiful and best-known Northwest flowers.  Their petals turn purple with age.

These are growing in the shady mouth of a lava tube.  The cave was created when a flowing river of lava crusted over, following an ancient eruption of Mount Saint Helens.
